Information for Participants
Seventh Annual Minnesota State University System
UNDERGRADUATE TEACHING CONFERENCE
"Integrating Theory and Practice in College Teaching: Walking the Talk"
Transportation
Arrangements for transportation to the conference, and costs
of transportations and meals en route, are the responsibility
of your university. Many universities arrange for car pools
and university vans; you may want to check with your Bush
Grant coordinator for more information.
Hotel Arrangements and Meals
The conference hotel is the Northland Inn and Executive
Centre, located at the intersection of I94 and Bonne Avenue
North in Brooklyn Park. In addition to excellent conference
facilities and spacious guest rooms, the Northland Inn also
offers a swimming pool, excercise room, and game room for
your use. Accommodations will be single suites for most
people, but some doubles will be necessary. If you are
willing to share a double suite, please indicate your
roommate preference on the attached form. If you are from
Metro, we are assuming you will commute. If you are not from
Metro, we have reserved accomodations for you. (You will
not receive a room confirmation notice prior to the
conference, however.) No provisions have been made for
guests or spouses.
Conference Schedule
The conference will begin Thursday with lunch from 11:45
a.m. to 1:00 p.m., followed by concurrent sessions featuring
your colleagues in the Minnesota State University System.
Since the conference is offered in conjunction with the faculty
development greant awarded to the MSUS by the Bush
Foundation, many of the presentations will focus on one or
more of the three key issues identified in the Bush project--
general education, critical thinking, and cultural diversity.
Keynote speaker is Dr. Julie Klien, professor of humanities at
Wayne State University and one of the nations's foremost
interdisciplinarians. Klein has published widely on
interdisciplinary research and education. In addition to
helping develop and evaluate interdisciplinary education
programs, she assisted in the design of interdisciplinary
research teams at the Free University of Brussels and played
an instrumental role in recent reviews of interdisciplinary
research and education at Ohio State University. See the
enclosed tentative schedule for more information. The
conference will conclude at 3:30 p.m. on Friday, October 28.
IMPORTANT: The conference is designed to be both active
and interactive, encouraging interchange among faculty on
innovative and effective teaching techniques. You are
expected to attend the entire conference and participate fully
in it. If your schedule does not allow to commit yourself to
attending for both days as scheduled, please notify us
immediately so that we can assign your slot to another faculty
member. If we do not hear from you, we will assume you are
definitely planning to attend to the conference and will
confirm the suite already reserved in your name. If you have
questions about these arrangements or will not be able to
attend, please call or send a DG message at once. In past
years we had to pay for several hotel rooms because people
not inform us that they would not be attending the conference.
Also, call us immediately (OR return the attached form to
Micheal Field at Bemidji State University) if one of the
following applies to you:
